The Goodest Of News!
Hello friends.
As you know, the World of Scholarship has long ignored the War On Sailing, as is their wont; & the World of Ideas has chosen to circle its wagons around what might best be called "agreed-upon rules of public discourse"; & the Popular Culture has let itself be overfed & stroked gently like a dying wildcat rather than hear Truth which may compete with its attention span like summer movie blockbusters; & the Unpopular Culture thinks we can't help them get laid. Which may well be true.
But of all these surely our worst enemy has always been "the Media." The fourth estate, the guardians of democracy, the hen in the cathouse, the bloody turd in the stool sample, the fat people with the buck teeth than cry all the time - the Media has been called these things & more. A whole lot more, actually. We could publish pages. Anyway, we've never attempted to explicate the War On Sailing using any print or broadcast media (present company excluded, because, you know, it's a blog) because the War On Sailing has, at many times, been fought primarily with the Media. Perhaps we were too afraid to become part of the wrong side. Perhaps we were unsure about our incorruptibility. Perhaps we just couldn't get the smell of the rotting corpse of Tim Russert out of our minds. No matter! All has changed!
That's right - premiering tomorrow on Austin radio station KVRX, at 5pm, we present the radio version of this blog, called simply The War On Sailing. The counter-counter-revolution begins here! Or there! Here & also there! & it might just be a simple counter-revolution. I missed an issue of TV Guide & am currently unsure which network is in charge of the Iraq War. My apologies.
The show will feature words & music & therefore there'll be playlist soon posted to this blog. I will also attempt to make the shows available to people who can't listen precisely at that time. Stay tuned! There will soon be a day when all the world knows about the War On Sailing!
